MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA STRING FELLOWSHIPS

MSO String Fellowships are a two-stage period of concentrated study and performance at a professional level.

STAGE ONE: Preparation for your audition

This is an intensive eight-day foundation course, where Fellows receive one-on-one coaching from their mentor, a member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, focusing on orchestral repertoire. You will also gain invaluable experience performing in simulated auditions, receiving feedback and advice, and take part in development sessions led by guest presenters covering topics such as media skills, health and physical awareness and how best to prepare for your audition. This is a time for dedicated practice, free from distractions and normal daily pressures. Stage One culminates in a casual audition for the orchestra, after which selected successful Fellows will progress to Stage Two.

STAGE TWO: The Orchestra

In this stage you will rehearse and perform within the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for up to three weeks, under the close guidance of your mentor.

“I have learnt so much form this week. It has changed my attitude to orchestral playing and shown me what high standards one must impose on oneself to be able to audition successfully.” MSO String Fellowship participant
