Volunteering at the AYO
The Australian Youth Orchestra relies on a network of volunteers across Australia. Most of the volunteer work occurs during an the AYO program or activity and can include:
- administrative support in the AYO's Sydney office (research, answering phones, filing, direct mail campaigns and database entry)
- Artistic Program personnel work (as residential co-ordinators, music librarians, office assistants and drivers)
- organising and bowing music parts for rehearsal and performance in the two months preceding an AYO program (music knowledge is essential here)
- special projects work.

AYO Marketing & Communications Intern
The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is seeking a Marketing and Communications Intern (unpaid) to assist with a broad range of activities including database management, marketing campaigns, audience development and publicity two to three days per week from June till October in the Marketing & Communications Department.
The position is an invaluable opportunity to gain hands on experience in a professional environment and give the successful applicant the opportunity to further their arts marketing career.
Applicants should possess the following skills and attributes:
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• A demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for the arts
• Strong computer skills
• Attention to detail and strong organisational abilities
The internship will involve the following:
• Working with on various facets of AYO marketing campaigns
• Database maintenance including processing and updating customer records
• Assisting with the creation and development of a variety of communications materials such as e-newsletters, direct mail letters, mailouts & promotional materials
• Distributing PR material and liaising with media to secure editorial and other media activities
• Front of house duties including RSVPs and box office
• Assisting in event management for a number of performances and other events such as development and sponsorship functions
